Epidemic of Loneliness

From the desire of being esteemed, deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being loved,
From the desire of being extolled,
From the desire of being honored,
From the desire of being praised,
From the desire of being preferred to others,
From the desire of being consulted,
From the desire of being approved,

From the fear of being humiliated, deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being despised,
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
From the fear of being calumniated,
From the fear of being forgotten,
From the fear of being ridiculed,
From the fear of being wronged,
From the fear of being suspected,

That others may be loved more than I, O Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I,
That, in the opinion of the world, others may, increase and I may decrease,
That others may be chosen and I set aside,
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,
That others may be preferred to me in everything,
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should, O Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

  1. My first viewing, was in a Liberal Arts College. Where this film was presented by the lecturer in a vey narrow way. He wasn’t so much interested in the content, but more to do with Travis representing the loneliness and isolation of the modern artist and the form of the taxi, passing through inner city spaces (and evocation of Travis’ inner mood ) looking at the scenes of opening up of and passing through ‘mini dramas’ of decadent modern life.

You point about modern isolation of the individual is something that as affected me for a decade and have tried to reach out through the internet, ending up in seeking connections, where I tried to communicate, interact through the internet that failed

In response I tried to present via the web ideas/projects for off line networking… and without success

My journey in brief, early nominal Christianity , where mothers side was Catholic , I went to protestant church briefly , ‘left it behind’ after school, and then via liberal arts grad via homosexuality, then later via nationalism, and recently alt- right and then via leaving of the latter, then through cf , returning to God via Orthodox Christianity

I always enjoy your Cultural podcasts guys

    God Bless
